The famous Nontron knife with its boxwood handle is still produced in Nontron using the same methods as in the 15th century. You can visit the strikingly modern factory with shop which overhangs the gorge.
Every year at the beginning of August the town hosts France's major two day knife festival with demonstrations of traditional blacksmith's skills.
